"The ban on two areas of the Pacific Commons streaches of international waters surrounded by coastal waters belonging to the Pacific nations, aims at conserving bigeye and yellowfin tuna stocks," matod ni Stanley Swerdloff, ang senior fisheries adviser sa Growth With Equity in Mindanao.

"Most of the Philippine fishing fleets are licensed to catch in these countries' exclusive economic zones (EEZs), and these are where heavy Philippine fishing expedition has been accruing," dugang taho ni Swerdoff.

"Traditionally, Filipino fishing boats catch stocks in the EEZs…so the ban on international waters by the Pacific nations will not have much impact to our tuna industry," matod ni Dexter Teng, assistant general manager sa TSP Marine Industries.

Nagkanayon ang report sa Business World katunga nga makuha nga tuna nagagikan sa Pacific nations diin naglangkob sa Micronesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu ug dinhi sa nasud. (Super Banat Balita/PIA-Caraga) [top]
