"Walk for Peace" kicks off twin commemoration in Region 8

Tacloban City (August 28) -- The "Lakad Para sa Kapayapaan" (Walk for Peace) or "Kalakat Para Ha Kamurayawan" which will be participated in by students in the secondary and tertiary levels and government employees on September 1, will be the kick-off activity for the month-long celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Philippine Civil Service and the National Crime Prevention Week.

Director David Cabanag, Jr. of the Civil Service Commission and Director and Director Josephmar Gil of Napolcom informed that the participating group which will be identified thru agency streamer or banner, will assemble at 6:00 o'clock in the morning in two assembly areas – one at the San Fernando Elementary School Lucban St. side and another one at Coca-cola Junction for schools and government agencies near the area.

The first assembly area will be marshaled by the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police and Access while the second assembly area will be marshaled by Napolcom, PNP and Access.

The Walk for Peace will take off at exactly 7:00 o'clock in the morning with the two groups walking towards the Tacloban City Convention Center. The Lukban St. group will be led by the Tacloban City Band while the group from Coca Cola will be led by the PNP Recom 8 Band or by the Philippine Army Band.

The Flag Raising Ceremony, the Panunumpa sa Watawat and Panunumpa ng Kawani sa Gobyerno will be conducted at 8:30 in the morning at the Tacloban City Convention Center and this will be followed by the Program.

At 10:00 o'clock to 10:15 in the morning, the participants will join in the simultaneous nationwide whistle-blowing, a youth activity that signals the fight against crime. Each participating agency is requested to provide its contingents with whistles.

Another important part of the activity is the slogan making contest which has two categories.

The first category is for the Youth/Student Sector on the theme of the 14th National Crime Prevention Week Celebration "Kapit-Bisig Kabataan Tungo sa Kapayapaan."

The second category is the Government Sector on the theme of the 108th Philippine Civil Service Month celebration "Republic-Service – Kabalikat ng Bayan sa Panahon ng Paghamon."

Three winners will be chosen for each category. Prizes are donated by the Rotary Club of Tacloban. (PIA 8) [top]
