Council pushes resolutions to resolve drug-related cases in Region 2

Cabarroguis, Quirino (22 September) -- The members of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) Region 2 has revived two proposals for the establishment of a drug rehabilitation center and to ask the Department of Justice to designate special prosecutors for drug cases in region 2.

Quirino Gov. Dakila Carlo E. Cua, RPOC Chairman, stated that the drug rehabilitation center is very important especially for the victims of drug menace including their families.

The resolution is a revival of an earlier proposal which was not acted upon by the Dangerous Drug Board and has been shelved through the years.

In view of the council, there is an urgent need to establish a drug rehab center because cases of illegal drugs users in the region is increasing and there is a growing clamor for drug rehabilitation services in the region.

The resolution was forwarded to DDB for immediate action and funding assistance.

On the other hand, the RPOC has also approved a resolution recommending to the DOJ the designation of special prosecutors on drug cases in special drug courts of the region.

The council said it has been a perennial problem that cases related to illegal drugs filed in courts result to piling up for cases and congestion of prisoners waiting for justice in jails.

PDEA 2 presented that there are more than 1,134 cases filed in court that remain unresolved because of lack of special prosecutors to investigate illegal drug cases.

With this, the peace and order council of the region hope for an immediate action from the respective agencies concerned. (Oliver B./PIA 2) [top]
