Baguio City Jail continues to promote PDL livelihood products

BAGUIO CITY (PIA) — The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Baguio City Jail (BCJ) continues to promote the various products made by Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs).

Among the hand-made products are beads and bayongs (bags) and food products such as graham, chili paste, pastillas, and baked products, among others.

JO1 Romelyn Jagodilla of the BCJ-Female Dorm said these products are the results of livelihood training that the PDLs have undergone with the help of various government agencies and non-government organizations.

She said that aside from these products, the PDLs are continuously expanding their skills and exploring new opportunities for income generation. They are now exploring crocheting and knitting, as well as pedicure and manicure.

“Continuous ti coordination mi with LGUs and NGOs, tapnu nu adda available nga mabalin kami nga ag-display  especially nu adda ti occasions,” Jagodilla shared.

The BCJ-Female Dorm also helps in marketing these products through its Facebook page where clients can choose what products they can buy from the BCJ.

Their products are also on display at the Baguio City Hall canteen, and at the Justice Hall on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The BCJ is also considering online deliveries in the future.

Jagodilla said the BJMP’s support has been instrumental in providing opportunities for the PDLs to learn, grow, and acquire valuable skills that they can use in their reintegration into society.

“Adda dagiti nai-refer mi iti trabaho. We refer ti dadduma iti barangay, nu adda mai-refer ti barangay a tulong,” she added.

The livelihood activities in jails are  a component of the rehabilitation programs for PDLs in BJMP facilities nationwide.
