Davao del Sur State College gets DOST support to boost local coffee industry

DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur (PIA)–  The Davao del Sur State College will eventually receive additional equipment to upgrade its Coffee Innovation Center through the help of the Provincial Science and Technology Office in Davao del Sur, which provides funds through the local grant in aid project.

Dr. Augie Fuentes, president of the DSSC received the grant with a total of P300,000 from the Department of Science and Technology through the Provincial Science and Technology Director Leslie Cancio of Davao del Sur.

Fuentes said the grant will benefit the coffee farmers in Davao del Sur especially those residing at Managa in  Bansalan, Kapatagan and Sta. Cruz.

“This milestone underscores the unwavering commitment of both DOST XI and DSSC to elevate Davao del Sur’s coffee industry,“ she said.

Fuentes said as active members of the Davao del Sur Coffee Council, both agencies play a pivotal role in driving progress in the province’s coffee sector, fostering innovation, and providing vital support to local coffee processors.

“The Coffee Innovation Center at DSSC, a key initiative within this collaborative effort, serves as a hub for innovation and skill development. It contributes significantly to strengthening the province’s coffee industry, promoting its growth from seed to cup, and ensuring that even those lacking resources can participate in the industry’s expansion,” she said.

Fuentes said DOST XI and DSSC have reaffirmed their steadfast dedication to the prosperity of Davao del Sur’s coffee industry. As members of the Davao del Sur Coffee Council, the commitment to supporting and nurturing the coffee industry in the province is upheld, paving the way for sustainable growth and development.

She said both agencies play a pivotal role in driving progress in the province’s coffee sector, fostering innovation, and providing vital support to local coffee processors.

As a member of the Davao del Sur Coffee Council, Fuentes cited the  need for local coffee farmers to be committed to sustain and nurture the coffee industry of the province.
