La Union strengthens information drive through PIA partnership

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union (PIA) – The provincial government of La Union (PGLU) has joined forces with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) to ramp up its information dissemination efforts.

Governor Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David met with PIA Deputy Director General for Creative Communications and External Affairs Katherine Chloe De Castro on June 18 to discuss the collaboration.

Ortega-David expressed her hope that the partnership will allow the PGLU to leverage PIA’s expertise in communicating government programs, projects, and services to the public.

“As a public servant, it is indeed a blessing to have the PIA as our partner in disseminating information about the advocacies, programs, and activities of our beloved province, which will definitely lead to the betterment of our constituents,” the governor said.

She emphasized the importance of strong partnerships and innovative strategies in ensuring accurate and timely information reaches the public.

The governor highlighted the province’s progress in establishing information officers (IOs) in its municipalities.

“Fifty percent of La Union’s 20 municipalities now have permanent IOs, thanks to our partnerships with communicators. We are committed to supporting the creation of more IO positions,” she explained.

De Castro welcomed the proposed partnership and its focus on development.

“PIA offers workshops for IOs that utilize TikTok, Google, and other social media platforms. Through these, we can work on something. When you have information, especially your best practices and advocacies, that you would like to disseminate in the entire Philippines, we would too, because this is how we show our support,” she said.

PIA Region 1 Director Jennilyne Role added that through the agency’s advocacy, communicators within the province and the Ilocos Region should engage in dynamic discussions and workshops.

This will enhance their communication skills and strategies, allowing them to effectively showcase La Union’s unique strengths to a wider audience.

“Through effective communication, the information officers should serve as catalysts for positive change, shedding light on the province’s and region’s progress while highlighting its potential as the number one destination for tourists and culture enthusiasts,” said Role.

PIA has committed to collaborating with the PGLU on developing informative information, education, and communication materials and forging new partnerships with government broadcasters.

PIA will also assist the provincial government in combating misinformation and disinformation by linking its resources to the PIA website.

This collaboration between the PGLU and PIA promises to enhance the flow of information to La Union residents and promote the province’s initiatives across the Philippines. (AMB/KJCR, PIA La Union)
