Munti champions support group for children with special needs

MANILA, (PIA) — The Muntinlupa City government has established a dedicated support group for parents or guardians of children with special needs, providing a monthly gathering where they can share experiences, gain insights, and find encouragement from one another.

Jhen, a mother of a child with special needs, expressed her gratitude for the support group, saying, “We’ve found a new family here who understands and supports our journey. The sharing sessions with fellow parents are a source of inspiration and practical ideas for our children.”

Dan, another parent, echoed these sentiments, stating, “This support group has been a tremendous relief for my wife and me. It allows us to open up about the challenges we face and find solace in knowing we’re not alone.”

The support group is an extension of Project AGAP (Agarang Gabay at Alalay na Pambata), a pioneering initiative of Mayor Ruffy Biazon aimed at the early detection and intervention of developmental delays in children. Through Project AGAP, children with special needs receive free assessments and therapy sessions conducted by developmental-behavioral pediatricians.

“This initiative highlights our unwavering dedication to the well-being of every family in Muntinlupa,” Mayor Biazon said. “We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, and we are committed to providing the resources and support they need to reach their full potential.”

The support group has already made a profound impact on the lives of participating parents, offering a much-needed sense of community and empowerment. As Jhen aptly put it, “This program has given us hope and strength to continue advocating for our children.”

The Muntinlupa City Government is committed to fostering an inclusive community that embraces and supports all its members, regardless of their abilities. Through initiatives like the support group and Project AGAP, the city is striving to create a high quality of life for its residents, ensuring their safety, well-being, and progress. (GLG/PIA-NCR)
