BACOLOD CITY, Feb. 15 (PIA6) - - National Arts Month this February in Bacolod City will be marked by Kuris Theatre Festival among other culture and art activities in the city.
Kuris Theatre Festival is organized here by The Performance Laboratory and Teatrokon: West Visayas Theater Network in collaboration with the International Theater Institute–International Playwright’s Forum, and Women Playwrights International-Philippines and through the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and University of St. La Salle which will be launched on February 20 at the SM City Bacolod Main Atrium.
The Kuris Theater Festival aims to establish community and university-based theater groups, as part of Philippine culture, to serve as one of the pillars for sustainable development; advance creativity and diversity of artistic expression through an acquired knowledge on Dramaturgy; educate and train potential young artists and writers on playwriting and dramaturgy to develop young Filipino playwrights, dramaturges, and theater managers; and; showcase works of local theater groups to strengthen regional networking and collaboration; and open opportunities for international linkages and exchange.
During the three-day festival on February 23-25, there will be free workshops on Dramaturgy, Management of Theatre Organizations, and Playwriting Development Workshop for Emerging Playwrights as well as presentations of various performances of the university-based and community –based theater groups in Western and Central Visayas.
The festival which now runs on its 4th year, has been a venue for increasing the awareness and knowledge of theater artists on the study and practice of Playwriting and Dramaturgy, as it hopes to establish a stronger worldwide network of playwrights and theater organizers.
