CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga, Mar. 20(PIA) - - The City Veterinary Office (CVO) here is conducting free massive anti-rabies vaccination of dog pets in observance of Rabies Awareness Month.

The activity had kicked-off last March 10  with  teams from the CVO vaccinating  more than 200 dog pets in Barangay Casigayan  before rolling-off to other barangays.

In their barangay sorties, the CVO teams take advantage of providing vaccination and health care to large cattle and other home pets

City Veterinarian Fermin Quinto reported the month-long celebration includes citywide advocacy to increase responsible pet ownership.

In partnership with barangays, pet owners are invited at barangay halls where lectures on proper animal care are given, at the same time there is distribution of free medicines, vitamins and deworming tabs for pets.

Quinto said the fight against rabies is a regular program of the city towards a zero-rabies Tabuk.

He stressed that the program needs sincere involvement of pet owners and solicited their cooperation to reduce problem on stray dogs, which he claimed is vital in eradicating rabies.

He reiterated   the implementation of barangay ordinances against stray dogs and proper handling of pets as part of the program. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
