PASAY CITY, April 20 (PIA)--President Rodrigo Duterte graced the launching of the Cine Lokal Wednesday (April 19) at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Cine Lokal is a project of the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) in cooperation with SM Entertainment that is dedicated to showing independent and award-winning films.

FDCP chairperson and CEO Liza Diño expressed gratitude to the President for showing the government’s commitment to the development of the local film industry.

“We are beyond honored and grateful for this show of support by no less than our President. This reaffirms the government’s support for the development of the Philippine cinema. We are confident that Cine Lokal is just the start of the government and the film industry coming together to further cultivate a culture of film appreciation that goes beyond entertainment value,” Diño said.

The FDCP will be programming content every month with a running theme to further encourage discourse among the audience.

For April, films for Salve Pelikula will be screened, among them “Spotlight”, “Himala”, “Iadya Mo Kami”, and “Of Sinners and Saints”.

Salve Pelikula will start on April 21 in Cine Lokal theaters.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority general manager and Metro Manila Film Festival chairman, Thomas Orbos, expressed support for the FDCP initiative for independent film makers to commercialize their films.

He said that the project will also create a culture of support and viewership among Filipinos nationwide and at the same time, provide a venue for educational discourse for the youth and for our regional cinema. (PIA-NCR/RJB/SDL)
