LINGAYEN, Pangasinan March 20 (PIA) - The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Region (RR) 1 targets to collect for 2017 at least P15.6 billion taxes in Ilocos Region which is 30 percent higher from its collection of only P12 billion last year.

On her speech during the kick-off ceremony of the 2017 Income Tax Campaign Program held on Thursday at the Sison Auditorium here, Teresita Dizon, officer-in-charge of BIR-Region 1, said that their office has accepted BIR Commissioner Caesar Dulay’s challenge for the agency to have a total collection of P1.83 trillion nationwide for this year.

“Last 2016, RR1 was able to collect P12 billion or 20 percent growth rate over 2015 collections. For 2017, we are aiming for 30 percent growth rate or P15.6 billion, thus we have to collect an average collection of P1.3 billion per month,” Dizon said.

She said that as of February this year, BIR-Region 1 has already collected at least P2.1 billion but still behind its target with more than a half billion.

Based on the Revenue Data Center, BIR-Region 1 has 4,143 taxpayers registered for income tax, however, only 2,421 or 65 percent tax returns were collected in 2015 which means that at least 45 percent or 1,992 taxpayers did not file their tax returns.

“Ang tunay na pagbabago ay sagutin ko, sagutin mo, at sagutin nating lahat. Magtulungan po tayong lahat para sa isang maunlad na rehiyon at isang maunlad na Pilipinas,” Dizon said urging the public to do their share and pay their taxes correctly.

“Now is the time for all tax payers, tax practitioners, and tax administrators to bond together towards the common objective of nation building and uplifting the lives of our countrymen,” Dizon added. (JNPD/EMBS/CJDC-OJT/PIA-1, Pangasinan)
