CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, 17 March (PIA) – In line with the aim of the government to popularize the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the concept of ASEAN Integration, an ASEAN Hub was launched in the Regional Office of the Philippine Information Agency Region IV-A (PIA IV-A) last March 15.

The ASEAN Hub was opened to offer Filipinos a venue for learning and understanding more about the ASEAN and the efforts of various government agencies to contribute to achieving its goals.

Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials like newspapers, magazines, leaflets, and booklets, among others, were made available in the hub for public consumption.

IEC materials are comprised of diverse topics such as the ASEAN Master Plan, the Projects and Programs of different Government Agencies, Provincial Government and Local Government Units (LGUs) in CALABARZON, and other educational and practical lessons in agriculture, medicine and home-making, among others.

During the launch program, Ma. Cristina C. Arzadon, PIA IV-A Regional Director, oriented the Media visitors about ASEAN and the purpose of the ASEAN hub.

Afterwards, a Kapihan was held with Regional Director Arzadon and Guest Teresita D. Gonzaga, Department of Trade and Industries Region IV-A (DTI IV-A) SME Development Division Chief, as speakers for the event. A number of media practitioners also participated in the said talk.

Gonzaga discussed the beauty of the vision for an ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and the role that DTI plays as the Economic Pillar for the ASEAN – one of the three ASEAN pillars: Economic, Political-Security and Socio-cultural.

She shared to the agency some IEC materials on AEC which will be useful as source of knowledge and understanding about how the ASEAN plans to achieve their economic goals. It will be made accessible for reading.
