CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, March 21 (PIA)-- The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) IV-A-Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) IV-A, is now accepting entries for the 2017 Gawad KALASAG search to honor Calabarzon’s outstanding contributors in the field of disaster risk reduction and management and humanitarian assistance.
Spearheded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Gawad KALASAG or KAlamidad at sakuna LAbanan, SAriling Galing ang kaligtasan, is the country’s yearly acknowledgement scheme to recognize outstanding performances of Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (LDRRMCs), Barangay (BDRRMCs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), educational institutions including Early Learning Centers (ELCs) and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Government Emergency Management or GEM (Basic and Advance), Hospitals, Volunteer Organizations and, Private (Business/Corporate) Organizations.
Also qualified for the awards, are individuals who have shown acts of heroism during disasters & emergencies and other major stakeholders that continue to render exemplary contribution in promoting and implementing significant and gender sensitive DRRM-Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) programs and innovations that build community resiliency in long term.
Categories for the Gawad KALASAG awards include: Best Local DRRM Councils or LDRRMCs for provinces; cities subcategorized into highly urbanized city and to component/independent; municipalities subcategorized into 1st – 3rd class municipalities and 4th – 6th class municipalities; Best Barangay DRRM Committees (BDRRMC) subcategorized into urban and rural barangays, Civil Society Organizations; People’s Organizations; Volunteer Organizations; Government Emergency Response Management (GEMs) for basic search & rescue and advanced/urban search & rescue; Best Schools for urban & rural public or private schools; Early Learning Centers (ELCs), both urban and rural; Higher Educational Institutions; Gawad KALASAG for Government National Hospital, Government LGU Hospital, Private Hospital and, Specialty Hospital; Private (Business/Corporate) category; Heroic Act of Individuals/Groups in providing Humanitarian Assistance and; Special Recognition Awards.
Entries in the form of printed documentation, may be submitted at the OCD IV-A Regional Office at RDRRMC IV-A Center, Camp Vicente Lim, Calamba City not later than March 22, 2017.
All entries at the regional level will be assessed by the Regional Selection Committee through desk and field validation.
Regional winners will be given plaques of recognition with cash awards and will advance to the national level. (GG/M. Lito, PIA4A)
