ILOILO CITY, April 22 (PIA6) - - Beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino program who already received their rice subsidies in the form of P600 per month are thankful for these provided them additional relief from their woes of meeting their daily needs including food.

In Iloilo City, among those who already benefited from the rice assistance are the Gahap and Pacura families of Barangays Ortiz and Calumpang, respectively.

Derly Gahap, a 40-year old single parent, said the additional cash assistance further eased her struggles to earn money to feed her children and buy the other needs of her household.

She said she is already thankful that the things needed by her children in school are provided under the program.

Gahap works as a trisikad driver and vends anything to augment her income.

For this school year, she proudly shared that her two children finished with honors. Edgar completed his Grade 4 as second honors and Xena her Grade 2 as third honors.

For Charlie Pacura, the monthly rice aid helped augment his income as “job order’ employee of the government.

With the P600, Pacura said his borrowing of rice in the nearby store which he pays when he receives his salary will now be minimized. He said the amount can buy about 15 kilos of rice which will last for the consumption of his family, composed of his wife and two children, for 15 days.

President Rodrigo Duterte in his first State of the Nation Address directed the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to distribute rice subsidies to Pantawid Pamilya beneficiaries to make them self-reliant and to help address the hunger problem.

4Ps household beneficiaries who are active and compliant with the conditionalities of the program are entitled for the additional cash assistance.

In Western Visayas, DSWD 6 has received P114,106,200.00 to fund the provision of rice subsidy for some 190, 736 household beneficiaries for the month of January.  As of March 31, 2017, DSWD 6 data showed that some 189,589 households have claimed their subsidies.

Compliant Pantawid Pamilya households will get their rice assistance of P1,200 covering the months of February and March in the next pay-out scheduled in May, according to DSWD 6. (JCM/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
