ORMOC CITY, Leyte, June 22 (PIA) -- President Benigno S. Aquino III’s anti-corruption campaign was highlighted during the recent seminar for government executives at Ormoc City Multi-purpose Hall.

Dubbed as “PNoy’s Priority Key Result Areas (KRAs): Anti-corruption and Transparent, Accountable, and Participatory Governance,” the seminar was conducted by the Region Eight Administrators League (REAL) in coordination with Ormoc City.

REAL is committed towards a transparent, accountable and participatory governance, said Imelda Laceras, region director of the Department of Budget and Management in her opening message.

“This is the first of a series of seminars which will be conducted by REAL on all the KRAs of the Aquino administration,” Laceras said. The REAL Board is one in the belief that the executives must be made knowledgeable on the KRAs so that they will be able to align their programs and projects with that of the central government, Director Laceras added.

"Indeed, administrators in the region are united in supporting PNoy’s priority programs for the Filipino people,” the DBM director said as she expressed her appreciation to the 123 government executives who attended the seminar.

Mayor Eric Codilla who hosted the venue, shared the best practices in good governance of the City of Ormoc, which is perhaps among the very few LGUs without any loan and has been implementing projects using its own funds.

The keynote speaker during the seminar was Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Pelagio S. Apostol who underscored the role and the mandate of the Office of the Ombudsman.

Apostol stressed that the Office of the Ombudsman is not here to persecute but to protect government executives and employees against possible harassment. The dialogue with the Deputy Ombudsman enabled participants to voice out their queries and concerns; this was moderated by PIA Regional Director Erlinda Olivia P. Tiu.

Father Albert E. Alejo, SJ, discussed the topic, “Beyond Honesty: Integrity Reflections for Public Officials.” His talk was a call for public officials to self-reflection and renewal of pledge of commitment to public service. (PIA 8)
