Tacloban City, Leyte, June 6 (PIA) -- Some school officials in Tacloban City continue to accept enrollees despite the fact that classes officially started yesterday.

Antonio de la Cruz, information officer of the Leyte National High School claimed that non-acceptance of late enrollees will deprive those wanting to have an education and will break the Department of Education policy of “education for all.”

As of Monday’s start of classes, over 5,200 students comprise the student population of LNHS considered as the largest secondary public school in Eastern Visayas relative to student population.

De la Cruz disclosed that with the continued acceptance of late enrollees LNHS would end up with a projected number of more than 6,500 students for the school year.

The official disclosed further that while classrooms and teachers can meet the needs of the projected number of students, 200 more chairs are needed to sit all of the students.

Meantime, over at the Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Elementary School, school principal Ciriaco Colibao also informed that enrollment is continuing even if classes have already started.

The school has over 1,000 students, with each grade level consisting of three to four sections with 45 to 50 students.

The continuing enrollment expected to increase the number of students will need an additional of at least two classrooms for use of the students. (PIA-8)
