TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, July 4 (PIA) -- Local chief executives in Eastern Visayas were reminded to follow an order banning public officials from placing their names or photos on billboards of government infrastructure projects.

DILG regional director Pedro Noval Jr. said that Memorandum Circular No. 2010-101 issued by Secretary Jessie Robredo in September 2010 prohibits the practice of putting up billboards and signages and other information materials bearing the names, initials, or pictures of government personalities on all government projects and properties.

Noval gave the explanation in relation to the conflict arising from the city government’s removal of government projects in the city bearing the name and logo of a politician.

The city government’s enforcement team said that their action of removing structures and billboards bearing the name of politicians was in line with the mandate of the DILG memorandum circular.

Noval said that the city government was only implementing the mandates of the memorandum circular. He also explained that tarpaulins that give greetings which bear the name and faces of politicians are the exemptions of the memorandum circular as such materials are not government projects.
