Joint army and police efforts seize hot logs in Lope de Vega town

TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, July 5 (PIA) -- The partnership between the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police (PNP) has once again yielded positive result when it was able to seize a huge volume of illegally cut lumber in Brgy. Kalangkaan, Lope de Vega town, Northern Samar.

Acting on a tip from the town mayor, a joint team of the 20th Infantry Battalion led by Sgt. Diomedes Latasan, the Lope de Vega police led by SPO4 Juan Cuesta, and the town’s natural resources officer Jojo Casco went to the area where the illegally cut lumber were stacked along the river at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday with the owner nowhere to be found.

The team brought the hot logs to the municipal covered court with the DENR taking over.

Kenneth Yves Salan, chief of the forest and law enforcement unit of the DENR, said that the seized lumber were mostly lawaan cut in different sizes which measured to 11,664 board feet with market value of P256,608.(EOPT/AJS-PIA 8)
