NTC-8 continues info drive against text scams

Tacloban City, Leyte, July 6 (PIA) -- The National Telecommunications Commission in Eastern Visayas is continuing its information drive on then techniques and the different modus used by text scammers including the different ways to avoid being victimized by said cheats.

Samuel Young, NTC regional director informed that the agency is undertaking the information drive because of the growing complaints and text scam cases in the region. He warns the public to guard themselves against text scammers by verifying the owner of unknown numbers before giving load, money or other matters solicited by a sender.

Director Young also informed that the NTC is lobbying in Congress on the bill on registration of SIM cards and users. He said that while the program requires much effort and is tedious on the part of the consumer, he hopes for the bill to be approved as it is hoped to solve the growing number of scam cases in the country.
