The EMB identified the LGU for the establishment of an MRF following the criteria set by the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC).

Catbalogan City is one of two identified LGUs which will benefit from the P1 million fund support allocated for the region for the establishment of two MRFs and waste diversion target approved by the NSWMC.

The LGU passed the primary criteria set on willingness to support the program by providing additional funds to ensure the operation and sustainability of the MRF.

The minimum area requirement for the establishment of MRF is 100 sq m to showcase the two components of the MRF in composting and segregated storage.
