NSO conducts census mapping in Leyte barangays
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, June 15 (PIA) -- To come up with a more reliable and accurate National Statistics Office (NSO) map, the NSO Leyte Provincial Office is currently conducting census mapping in all the barangays of Leyte.
Headed by provincial statistics officer Wilma A. Perante, the census mapping, which took off on June 4 is in preparation for the 2012 Census of Agriculture and Fisheries.
According to Ronald T. Dimaunahan of NSO, Leyte, data gatherers and processors for the mapping underwent training conducted at the NSO Regional Office No. VIII Training Center.
The gathered data Dimaunahan added, will be processed by the Map Data Processors of NSO, Leyte through the use of Geographic Information System.
The outputs of the maps will be coming from Google Earth images and from the Global Positioning System. Barangays with Google Earth images will be verified by the map data collectors for the correctness of the roads, barangay boundaries, and landmarks. And to come up with an accurate plotting of the barangay map, these map data collectors will be using the Global Positioning System receivers.
