TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, July 17 (PIA) -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Tacloban City Sub-District Engineering Office has conducted a clean-up and maintenance drive and along the national roads of Tacloban.

Tacloban City District engineer Arnaldo R. Bonifacio said employees cleaned the Mangonbangon waterways, declogged canals, vegetation control, repainted centerline and pedestrian lanes, patched potholes and joint sealant, reshaped road shoulders and cleaned curbs and gutters.

Bonifacio said the cleaning of Mangonbangon River and the de-clogging of the lined canal within Tacloban is still on-going to prevent damage to properties, loss of lives, and other flood-related disasters in times of natural phenomenon.

Bonifacio also said the continued vegetation control and the repainting of centerline and pedestrian lanes were conducted to beautify the environment as well as give road users protection from accidents by providing a clear view of the road.

National roads specifically along school premises were cleared of obstructions to ensure the safety of students going to and from their schools.

The patching of potholes, sealing of joints, reshaping of road shoulders and cleaning of curbs and gutters were also undertaken as part of their ongoing road maintenance activity, Bonifacio added.

Meanwhile, DPWH recently celebrated its 114th anniversary with the theme, “Katiwalian Labanan Para sa Bayan.” (EOT/MAA-PIA 8)
