Southern Leyte kicks off nutrition month celebration
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, July 3 (PIA) -- Nutrition Month celebration slated for July started with a zumba fitness exercise at the Department of Education Southern Leyte Division, Monday, participated by employees from the Education and Health offices.
“The nutrition program in Southern Leyte must give emphasis to the best practices including exercises, not to mention other healthy lifestyles that will be beneficial to one’s health,” Department of Health team leader Dr. Feliciano John Matibag said during the launching program.
“Filipinos nowadays are eating vegetables lesser compared from previous years,” Matibag said. In 1978, he said, the average consumption of vegetables was 160 grams per day, while in year 2008 it lowered to 110 grams per day.
“Nutrition is a balanced diet not only of vegetables but it includes the go, grow, glow foods,” Matibag said.
The nutrition launching program was followed by the opening of the “Tabo sa DepEd” with different fruits and vegetables displayed and sold.
This year’s nutrition month celebration carries the theme, ”Pagkain ng Gulay Ugaliin, Araw-Araw itong Ihain.” (PIA 8, Southern Leyte)
