NAVAL, Biliran, June 29 (PIA) -- The local government unit (LGU) of Naval will distribute vegetable seeds in identified schools to be planted in their respective gardens.

Mayor Susan Parilla, who headed the distribution, informed the members of the Naval Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC) during the meeting held Tuesday that the seed distribution is part of the kickoff activity for the Nutrition Month celebration this July.

On Monday, July 2, another distribution of seeds will follow after the motorcade at 8 a.m had passed through the main thoroughfares of poblacion Naval.

Parilla, together with Dr. Fernando Montejo, Naval municipal health officer and MNC chairman, identified the big schools as the Naval Central School, Naval SPED Center located inside the NCS compound, Caraycaray Elementary School , and Atipolo Elementary School.

Joining Mayor Parilla in the seed distribution are officers and members of the Naval nutrition council.

Also to be distributed in the identified schools are cuttings of malunggay, a leafy vegetable known to be very nutritious and rich in vitamins and minerals.

After the initial activities, Montejo said they will make the rounds together with Mayor Parilla to other barangays in Naval to distribute seedlings and malunggay cuttings to families to be planted in their backyard gardens.

“With fresh vegetables in the backyard of residents of Naval, for sure, the count of malnourished children in the municipality will decrease to a significant level,” he added.

The celebration of the Nutrition Month this year is centered on the theme, “Pagkain ng gulay ugaliin, araw-araw itong ihain!” (PIA 8, Biliran)
