Biliran rabies committee members attend rabies program review
NAVAL, Biliran, July 24 (PIA) -- To eliminate rabies in the province of Biliran and the entire Visayas, members of the Biliran Provincial Rabies Control Committee (PRCC) will attend a two-day Program Implementation Review of Rabies Elimination Project for Visayas.
This was revealed by Dr. Susette Apura, veterinarian of Biliran, in a letter invitation sent to PIA.
She said the activity is led by the Department of Health (DOH)-8 in coordination with the Department of Agriculture 8 and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The two-day activity will be held in Ormoc City on August 1 and 2 this year at a venue to be announced later.
Apura added that part of the discussions of the two-day affair is the review of programs, projects, and activities relative to the elimination of rabies in the Visayan provinces.
The activity will also enable the two sponsoring agencies to evaluate the successful implementation of the programs and projects relative to rabies elimination in the provinces in the Visayas area.
It was learned that in the province of Biliran, there was a noted decrease of rabies cases in the last few years.
Earlier, Lorna Jadulco, point person of the Biliran Provincial Animal Bite Center said that last year, there was no reported rabies case in the province.
The Biliran Provincial Health Office is strongly campaigning to eliminate rabies in the area.
One of the strategies to wipe out rabies is by vaccinating all dogs for free.
Along this line, dog owners are advised to submit their dogs for free vaccination at the nearest center to prevent the spread of rabies. (PIA 8, Biliran)
