Ifugao nutrition councils pledge to eradicate malnutrition
KIANGAN, Ifugao, August 3 (PIA) -- The Provincial Nutrition Council and members of the different municipal nutrition councils here pledged to eliminate malnutrition especially among children.
Council members committed to explore all strategies and ensure the participation of all sectors for a malnourished-free province and nation said Rose Domelod, Local Government provincial director, as she read the manifesto during the culminating program on the Nutrition Month celebration August 1.
Governor Eugene Balitang called on the participants to rally behind the battlecry of government for a one nutrition, one nation which is geared towards eradicating malnutrition.
“If we have a healthy people then government will devote much of its resources in addressing other concerns such as education and the like,” Balitang said during the event.
For their part, Kiangan mayor Joselito Guyguyon and Asipulo mayor Eladio Bang-ud said they will continue supporting the programs and activities on nutrition and encouraged the participants to do the same in whatever capacity so that cases of malnutrition will be decreased or even eliminated.
Bang-ud also shared some of the some of the good practices of Asipulo which propelled the town as a Green Banner awardee or the most outstanding nutrition program implementer. These included crafting of a health ordinance/code and the close monitoring of the implementation of the said local policy.
Barangay Captain Angel Taguiling of Poblacion East in Lagawe, the winner for the search for outstanding Barangay Nutrition Committee, shared their project on the collection of recyclable garbage such as plastics in all households which they sell to junkshops to fund their feeding program for malnourished kids, and mothers’ class made them win the said contest with a cash prize of P5,000.
