Tail end of the cold front develops in Mindanao - PAGASA

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, Dec. 27 (PIA) -- A tail end of the cold front is affecting Visayas and brings rains over Mindanao which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Based on satellite and surface data, at 2 a.m., today, a low pressure area (LPA) was also estimated at 60 km, Southeast of Zamboanga City, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

Per PAGASA forecast, Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers, while the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have mostly cloudy skies with light rains.

Likewise, Mindanao and the Visayas, including Southern Palawan, will be cloudy with scattered to widespread rain showers and thunderstorms, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.

Yesterday, at about 2:00 p.m., the LPA was estimated at 120 km., Southwest of Cotabato City at coordinates 6.3 degrees North, 123.3 degrees East, and was expected to move westward to the Sulu Sea, the PAGASA said.

Earlier, at 2:00 a.m., it was estimated, at 30 km. west Northwest of Butuan City (9.0 degrees North, 125.3 degrees East), Northeast monsoon affecting Luzon.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said these two weather systems, the LPA and tail of the cold front, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers in Mindanao and the Visayas becoming widespread over the following areas: Leyte provinces, Cebu provinces, Bohol, Negros provinces, Surigao provinces, Misamis provinces, Davao provinces and Cotabato provinces, which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
