4ID welcomes a new breed of star
CAMP EVANGELISTA, Cagayan de Oro City, July 19 (PIA) -- Army’s 4th Infantry “Diamond” Division recognized the promotion to brigadier general of the commander of its 403rd Infantry “Peacemaker” Brigade (403Bde) here today.
Brigadier General Romeo L. Gapuz is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Dimalupig” Class '81. He got promoted last July 15, 2012 along with 16 other generals of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
With his promotion, he was accorded with a battalion-sized arrival honor, an opportunity given only to distinguished officers and personalities visiting the division. In his case, he was honored for his promotion from colonel to brigadier general, a statement from 4CMO and 4ID said.
Gapuz is the commander of 403Bde that covers Misamis Oriental and Camiguin which Internal Security Operation Responsibility was turned over to local government units due to existence of the New People’s Army (NPAs). This turnover had been long planned, but it is only in his time as brigade commander when it happened.
With these huge accomplishments, he did not stop and led his unit to do more. He is instrumental in the surrender of 80 NPAs sometime in November 2011 and another 45 NPAs in March of this year. These are proof of his sincerity in bringing peace in his unit’s area of responsibility.
He was greeted by all officers and enlisted personnel of the division. His classmate from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Police Chief Superintendent Gil Jamila Hitosis, regional director, Police Regional Office (PRO) 10 also joined him in this celebration.
Major General Victor A. Felix AFP, Commander 4ID, congratulated Gapuz and said the star is really for Gapuz as he has proven his capability as leader in so many ways. Felix also added he is sure Gapuz is ready to assume higher position that will more challenge his ability and leadership. (4CMO/4ID/EOR/PIA10)
