Local social work office to conduct guiding sessions for OSYs
KIANGAN, Ifugao, July 5 (PIA) -- The Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) here plans to conduct self-reflection, guiding and identification sessions with the youth next month.
According to MSWDO Head Celestina Talosig, these sessions will help the MSWDO better understand the current difficulties of the youth in Kiangan and will also help out-of-school youth (OSY) understand what their issues are, and how they can rectify them to lead a productive life for themselves, their families and the community.
Through these sessions, the ultimate goal is to create volunteerism projects inside their barangays or the municipality that will target and cover other OSYs.
The idea came about when the MSWDO were evaluating and screening applicants for the Government Internship Program and discovered the existence of a big number of OSYs in the municipality.
The activity will begin with an orientation workshop to ensure that all the youth understand what will be discussed, what their roles are and the expected outputs.
The first step of the workshop will be the youth assessing their own barangays and the municipality as a whole on what issues they believe are most prevalent to the younger kids. Afterwards, they will expound upon theses issues raised followed by a session of critical thinking focusing on the youth, and then creating solutions to the issues.
Once solutions are manifested, the MSWDO staff will help organize and focus the efforts of the youth into viable programs and projects, and once the programs are completed they will further train them so that they will be equipped and prepared to present these programs to the constituents of the barangays.
To make sure that the outputs, interests and effectiveness can be measured, they will have a pilot testing to Barangay Pindongan, which was identified to have a big number of OSYs in the municipality. If the program goes well then they re-implement similar activities to the other barangays. (DBC/PIA-Ifugao)
