Yaman GenSan 2012 kicks off

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, June 21 (PIA)--- The 10th Yaman GenSan kicked off by a grand motorcade was formally opened yesterday afternoon at the Robinsons Place here.

The opening was kicked off by a grand motorcade that began at the Oval Plaza near the City Hall.

City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio led the opening and declared the event open taking pride of the previous accolades that YG has reaped over the years.

According to Jose Aponesto III, city public information officer, the city government of General Santos is giving its full support to Yaman Gensan 2012 allocating a budget of P1.3 million for the event.

YG, which means “Yabong Maliliit na Negosyo sa GenSan,” is being celebrated every third week of June to third week of July annually.

This year’s celebration is being spearheaded by the General Santos City Small and Medium Enterprise Development Council, Incorporated (GSC SMEDCI) partnering with the City Economic Management and Cooperative Development Office (CEMCDO), the GenSan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GSCCCI), the Dept. of Trade and Industry 12, the Philippine Information Agency 12, the PhilExport, and the local media.

YG Executive Committee chair Theresa Pacheco said the event has already been institutionalized since 2003 and is being poised “to spur economic activities during the period perceived business-wise as “lean months.”

This year’s theme centers on “Negosyo’y Palaguin, Biyayang Kalikasan Pagyamanin.”

The celebration is also aimed to “empower” and boost the confidence of local entrepreneurs to be competitively at par with others globally.

Pacheco said YG celebration will highlight activities such as skills and techno trainings on food, aqua and industrial businesses, arts and crafts, and other similar undertakings.

It will also include seminars on various topics ranging from personality/business development to financial growth that will have relevant impact on individual self or business management as a whole.

Other major staples include fora/congress; exhibits and business matching; and the 3rd Lechon Festival Parade and Competition 2012, which has become a favorite by YG followers in the past years.

The month-long event will wind up on July 21 with the night run wrapping up the 2012 YG celebration. (CTA/PIA-12 General Santos City)
