TABUK CITY, Kalinga, July 13 (PIA) -- Residents in Tabuk are now working together towards the full implementation of waste management program.

Every household is expected to practice “Tapat ko, Linis ko”(I clean my surroundings) by maintaining waste bags in front of residences, in strict observance of ordinances for a clean environment.

City Mayor Ferdinand B. Tubban said the campaign aims to educate people on the proper waste disposal.

Earlier, the city government spearheaded community assemblies involving barangays and other community leaders on how to dispose of wastes produced by households, business establishments, and different sources.

Tabuk has many potentials and it is not a far fetch idea to anticipate industries and manufacturing companies coming in. But it is important to put in place the waste management map of Tabuk, Tubban elaborated.

In connection with this, the city has identified its landfill site in Barangay Dilag where a vast open space far from residences serves as dumping site of the city’s garbage.

Tubban said a clean environment is crucial to good health, and that good health once damaged, is very hard to restore.

"It is not true that a dirty surrounding is the product of development; while it may be contributory, it is imperative on man to control his acts to learn to protect and preserve his environment," Tubban claimed.

“Community work starts at home, so when everyone performs his own assignment at home, we expect the whole city to be also as clean,” Tubban stressed.(JDP/LL- PIA CAR, Kalinga)
