Palarong Pambansa to showcase new, young athletes
QUEZON CITY, May 5 (PIA) -- The Palarong Pambansa (National Games) 2012 is expected to showcase a new roster of talented Filipino youth in the field of sports.
“While we expect that Palarong Pambansa will boost regional pride among our competing regional athletic associations, to the athletes, joining the competition has a deeper meaning. It could be the first step to reaching their dreams in the world of sports since it opens many doors of opportunities to unfold their full potentials,” said Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC Luistro.
The annual multi-sporting event has produced internationally-competing Filipino athletes like Lydia de Vega and Dyan Castillejo.
Among the athletes to look forward in the course of the competition include gymnasts Arielle Nichole Orella of the National Capital Region, who has been a consistent gold medalist since her elementary year; and Mary Carmelli Garovillo of Region 7, who was last year’s gold medalist.
Also expected to perform superbly are last year’s gold and silver medalists Mae Barit of Region XI for athletics and Jomel Renolayan of Region V, respectively.
Meanwhile, Region XII is also banking on the achievements of its delegation to compete laudably. Their team includes Jade Bornia for boxing, Rachiel Paterno for the 800 meter run athletics for elementary girls and Romnick for the 100 meter dash athletics for secondary level. (NFK/PIA-GHQ)
