QC City Council moves for creation of group to study AED in businesses
QUEZON CITY, July 14 (PIA) -- The Quezon City Council approved a resolution urging the city mayor to create a technical working group to study the feasibility of having automated external defibrillators (AED) in business establishments in the city.
AED is a portable medical device that can check a person’s heart rhythm and advice a rescuer when a shock is needed. It also uses voice prompts, lights and text messages to guide the rescuer on the steps to take.
The resolution also said it can be used in cases of life threatening cardiac arrhythmias which leads to cardiac arrest.
Introduced by Councilor Allan Benedict Reyes, the resolution aims to create a group to research the possibility of the mayor enjoining establishments, where large groups of people gather, to grant access to an AED in their area of business.
The resolution said cardiovascular disease is one of the top causes of death in the country and steps should be done to minimize it through giving immediate response to those who succumb to a heart attack.
It was approved on May 7 and was confirmed on May 14. (NFK/PIA-GHQ)
