PENRO pursues tree planting to address global warming, climate change

LAOAG CITY, June 27 (PIA) -- The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in Ilocos Norte pursues extensive tree planting to address continuing problem on global warming and climate change.

According to PENRO Chief Juan de los Reyes Jr, their office is determined to undertake aggressive tree planting in Ilocos Norte in compliance with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) campaign.

Last year, PENRO achieved the National Greening Program (NGP) target in the province, which is to plant 675,000 seedlings covering 1,350 hectares.

The seedlings were composed of assorted forest and fruit tree species.

For this year’s target, PENRO Ilocos Norte has projected at least 1.4 million seedlings to be planted covering 3,903 hectares in different identified sites in the province. And they are now on the process of site development and validation of municipalities and town for the massive tree planting for the NGP target.

Target municipalities involved are Nueva Era, Marcos, Paoay, Dingras, Carasi, Piddig, Banna, Batac, Solsona, Pagudpud, Adams, Burgos, Pasuquin and Vintar, which covers the largest area of the NGP with 1,490 hectares.

Various people’s organization, local government units, national government agencies based in the province are participating for the achievement of the said project. (ANL/CDG-PIA1 Ilocos Norte)
