Kalinga official underscores importance of livelihood in addressing poverty
TABUK CITY, Kalinga, July 5 (PIA) -- Sustainable livelihood projects that make use of indigenous raw materials are effective means in addressing poverty in the grassroots level.
Kalinga Representative Manuel Agyao underscored this in his message delivered by Dr. Caroline Agyao. It may not be a one-night solution as it “buys time for the poor” to cope with poverty while the government is implementing more complex and long–term solutions to curb the vicious cycle.
In his report, the official said that since his first year in office, his program had been supporting the livelihood programs being one of the best ways to answer the daily basic needs of the people. He said that at least 39 livelihood projects were now given to several groups and organizations around the province through the Congressional District Office.
Recently, additional livelihood projects were also launched through a partnership scheme with the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Labor and Employment.
Expressing support to the Aquino administration’s pursuit for moral recovery and good governance in Philippine public service, he called on all government workers servants to “pursue a future where no Filipino has to choose between food on the table or medicine for the sick and dying.”
“Awan sabali nga mangtulong kadagiti kakailyan tayo nu saan nga datayo met laeng. Daytoy apo iti umuna a konsiderasyon nu apay a tinutukan tayo ti pana"
The congressman said that as public servants, it is vital to always give focus in the sincere delivery of services to the poor people. "ngiyawat kadagiti naduma-duma a livelihood projects ditoy Kalinga (There’s no one that would help our people but us. This was the reason I gave priority to the delivery of various livelihood programs in Kalinga),” he said.
“The significance of public service is best depicted by our sincere desire to curb the evils of an imperfect world – a reality where the quality of life is essentially crippled by the effects of poverty and social justice,” he expressed.
To realize this, the government through its service providers should provide all the opportunities needed for a better future for the next generations, he said. (JDP/GGD-PIA CAR Kalinga)
