Inventors' contest and exhibits slated July 24-25
ODIONGAN, Romblon, July 5 (PIA) -- Local inventors and researchers will showcase their inventions and researches in the 2012 Inventors’ Contests and Exhibits scheduled on July 24-25 at the Romblon State University covered court.
The activity is part of the National Science and Technology Month celebrations in July which would also feature a Technology Forum on Department of Science and Technology (DOST) technologies and disaster preparedness.
There are four categories for the contest: high school level, college level, institutional researchers, and local inventors. High schools in the province are allowed a maximum of 3 entries; while colleges and universities, institutional researchers and local inventors will have no limit on the number of entries.
Each entry would be provided a 2m x 2m display space. The inventor may place a table or a stand on the designated area to display his/her invention which must be accompanied by a poster and a write-up. The poster should have the dimensions of 4ft (length) by 3 ft (width). A poster hanger would be provided by the DOST Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC). Contents of the poster would be the abridged version of the write-up and must have uniform format: title, background/rationale, statement of the problem, methodology, results and discussion, conclusion, and recommendations.
The research or invention write-up must be submitted on or before the deadline for submission of entries on July 20. Contest entries and rules may be served at the DOST Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) at the Ylagan Building, Aquino St. Brgy. Liwayway, Odiongan, Romblon.
The inventions would be judged based on their novelty, utility, responsiveness or relevance to community concerns, commercial potential, and work thoroughness. Cash prizes, trophies, and certificates await the winners in each category.
The contest is a joint undertaking between the DOST-PSTC Romblon, the provincial government of Romblon and Romblon State University (RSU). Governor Eduardo C. Firmalo who promised to provide the cash awards also signified interest to present a research paper.
Winners in the contest would have the chance to represent Romblon in the 2013 Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE), a biannual undertaking of DOST Mimaropa.
Two inventors from Romblon were runners up in the RICE held last October 2011. Renelyn Desiree D. Ramirez from Looc National High School won first runner up in the Sibol High School Category for her invention of betel nut as a deworming capsule.
Jose Luis S. Morales, an independent inventor from Alcantara was also first runner up for the Likha Category with his invention, a motorcycle sensor and alarm.
