TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Feb. 22 (PIA) -- Some 90 high school students of the Tuguegarao City Science High School will be proclaimed the first graduate of this school which city government opened in 2007.

Sangguniang Panglungsod member Michael Ting, who authored the ordinance for the establishment of a science high school in the city, said the government is now on the process of nationalizing the school four years after its establishment.

Prior to the science high school here, most students who passed the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) entrance examination go to Bayombong, Nueva Viscaya where the regional campus is located. Records show that almost 90 percent of the students in Bayombong hail from Tuguegarao City.

Ting said this made the legislative body of the city passed an ordinance to establish a science high school financed by the city government.

Since its establishment at the former city hall building, students of the school have become competitive in all aspects of learning, Ting added.

In fact, the pioneer graduates registered a 78 percent passing rate in last year’s PSHS entrance examination, a much higher rate even if one combines the result in all secondary schools in the city.

The councilor likewise disclosed that as of press time, the council has asked the government to absorb the school to lessen expenses on the part of the city government. (TCB/BSY-PIA)
