Navotas welcomes Habitat Youth Build volunteers
QUEZON CITY, May 30 (PIA) –- Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco said Tuesday that he welcomed partners and participants with more than 1,000 volunteers in a Youth Build at the Navotas Socialized Housing Site in Barangay Tanza.
Tiangco said the project will house 500 families affected by Typhoon Pedring last year.
The city mayor felt privileged that Habitat for Humanity chose Navotas to be the recipient of their selfless efforts to provide homes to many of their needy and homeless members in the city.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization building simple and decent houses for people in need. The organization pledged to build 500 houses at the 8.4 hectare reclaimed land.
“Much more than brick and mortar, this activity will provide more than just the much needed shelter to hundreds of Navotenyos. It will give them a fighting chance and hope for a better future than they could ever imagine for themselves and their children,” Tiangco said.
He also said that this effort is proof that the Filipino tradition of "bayanihan" is alive and it will serve as an example to many others that we are all responsible for our countrymen as well.
Among the volunteers are celebrities Matteo Guidicelli and Cris Villonco, who are youth ambassadors of Habitat for Humanity, Alex Eduque, founder and chairperson of Habitat Youth Council, Mr. Fernando Zobel de Ayala, chairperson of the I Build campaign of Habitat, Charlie Ayco, CEO and Managing Director HFH Program, Efren Penaflorida, and more.
