QUEZON CITY, June 4 (PIA) -– Everything is all set for the opening of classes today in all public elementary and secondary schools in Quezon City, the Division of City Schools said in a report to QC Mayor Herbert M. Bautista.

QC Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Betty Cavo assured the mayor during a regular executive meeting at QC Hall that the Division of City Schools had already addressed the reported classroom congestion and enrollment overflow especially at the high school level.

Cavo said in a press release sent to PIA-NCR that 16 new classrooms in Batasan National High School, which were funded by the national government, can be utilized starting today. The classrooms can accommodate 3,000 students at three sessions per day.

She also said that Batasan High School, Commonwealth High School, Holy Spirit National High School, Justice Cecilia Munoz Palma High School, and the Judge Feliciano Belmonte Jr. High School are ready to formally implement the alternative delivery modalities or intervention program such as open high school program, home study program, and alternative learning system, which were all recommended by the Department of Education (DepEd).

“All alternative delivery modalities/intervention programs are now in place in five high schools in District II, which were earlier reported with overflow enrollees. Teachers had been already trained to use the modules and instructional materials which they had already been provided,” she said in the press release.

She added that parents and teachers were thankful for the support of Bautista for approving the honoraria of teachers who underwent training for the alternative delivery modalities/intervention program.

The problem of classroom shortage in the elementary level had also been addressed, she said.

In Payatas, the excess enrollees at Payatas B Elementary School and Lupang Pangako Elementary School will be accommodated at Payatas C Elementary School.

She said that two mobile classrooms at President Corazon C. Aquino Elementary School were also set-up to be utilized this school year until the completion of a new four-storey, 24-classroom school building there.

The official also reported that all public elementary and high schools adhere to the DepEd memorandum of “no collection policy” during enrollment. (QC-PAISO/RJB/JRCA-PIA NCR)
