Classes suspended in 9 QC schools due to rains

‘Butchoy’ winds knock down power lines

QUEZON CITY, June 18 (PIA) -– Classes in many public and private elementary and secondary schools in Metro Manila, particularly in the cities of Quezon, Marikina, Navotas, and Malabon were suspended Monday morning due to rains and winds caused by typhoon “Butchoy.”

Power lines were also knocked down in some areas of Quezon City. Electrical engineers from Manila Electric Company worked the whole morning to restore electricity to a government office along Visayas Avenue.

In an email sent to the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), QC Public Affairs and Information Service Office (PAISO) head Gregorio T. Bañacia said that as a result of the heavy rains brought about by typhoon “Butchoy,” the Quezon City division of schools has authorized the suspension of classes in the afternoon session of nine QC public schools despite the absence of a typhoon signal.

Based on the recommendation of the division of the city schools, classes were suspended in the following schools:

Rosa Susano Elementary School – Barangay Gulod, Novaliches; Bagbag Elementary School – Richland V Subdivision, Barangay Bagbag; Dona Rosario Elementary School – Panday Pira St., Barangay Novaliches Proper; Benigno Aquino Elementary School – Commonwealth Avenue, Barangay Commonwealth; Commonwealth Elementary School – Commonwealth Avenue; San Antonio Elementary School - San Antonio Extension, SFDM; L. R. Pascual Elementary School – Pascual Road, Barangay Baesa; Sergio Osmena High School – del Monte, corner Araneta Avenue; and Masambong Elementary School – Wayan Street, Barangay Masambong.
