Hip Hop ‘Shakespeare’ in Manila
Quezon City, July 4 (PIA) -- The British Council (BC) and the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) are bringing Hip Hop Shakespeare to Manila for a series of workshops and performances from July 3-6, a BC press statement said.
Founded in 2008 by MOBO award-winning hip hop artist Akala, The Hip-hop Shakespeare Company (THSC) is a music theater production company aimed at exploring the social, cultural, and linguistic parallels between the works of William Shakespeare and that of modern-day rappers.
Launched in 2009 with the support of British actor Sir Ian McKellen, THSC delivers education programs offering young people a different view of the arts and themselves.
THSC also produces interactive live music events and theater productions showcasing the work of young talents who share the stage with established artists and actors. (British Council/RJB/JRCA/PIA-NCR)
