Village officials in N. Cotabato train on disaster preparedness

KORONODAL CITY, June 20 (PIA)--Barangay officials in Kabacan town in Cotabato are undergoing two-day training on disaster preparedness and climate change adaptation that started June 18.

The Agricultural Training Institute of the University of Southern Mindanao serves as the venue of the training.

Information from the office of Mayor George Tan indicated that the 24 barangays of the municipality were grouped into four with each group assigned to two-day schedule, with the last group completing their session on June 26.

Invited speakers like Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Jasmine Mosaid, Operation and Warning Officer Latip Akmad, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office Head Susan Macalipat, PO1 Ardec Dela Cruz as well as Inspector Guiamalon give insights with regards to the right actions and steps in helping fight and avoid the effects of disasters and climate change.

Employees of the municipal LGU also participate the training not only as trainees but also as event facilitators.

The first batch of trainees include local officials from the barangays of Bangilan, Malanduague, Pisan, Aringgay and Sanggadong.

Officials from Barangays Dagupan, Magatos, Malamote, Upper Paatan, Nangaan and Osias are presently undergoing the disaster preparedness and climate change training.

This activity is spearheaded by the chairman of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, Engineer Cedrik Mantawil.

It aims to prepare and educate all barangay officials on proper things to do whenever any unwanted and unexpected calamities hit their respective places. (SJDuerme-PIA12/BNicolas)
