TAGUIG CITY, June 6 (PIA) -- The Technological Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) treated some 1,000 elementary students to free hair cut last Sunday to prepare them for the opening of classes.

The “Libreng Gupit Sa Mag-aaral Ngayong Pasukan Handog ng TESDA,” launched at the Tenement Elementary School in Taguig City is the agency’s contribution to the “Brigada Eskwela” program of the Department of Education (DepEd) for the new school year.

During its launch, TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva was joined at the event by Education Secretary Armin Luistro, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano, local officials, TESDA officials, and graduates of technical-vocational courses.

In a news release, Villanueva said the project will be replicated in others schools in the National Capital Region to give more students the hair makeover treat.

Certified TESDA Specialistas do the haircut on the students, putting into practice the various hairstyling techniques they learned from their course.

“This activity will also showcase the skills of TESDA Specialistas, who are now called technopreneurs and are engaged in their own small businesses,” Villanueva said.

Simultaneous with the provision of haircut services to students, TESDA also conducted skills demonstration for their mothers and relatives. The skills demonstration included meat processing, fancy accessories, and water lily weaving among others. (TESDA/RJB/SDL-PIA NCR)
