PASAY CITY, June 8 (PIA) -- Three women wrestlers from Pasay City brought home the bacon from the recently concluded 2012 Philippine National Games (PNG) held in Dumaguete City organized by the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

Edralyn Calitis, 31, Cristina Vergara, 32, and Efrelyn Crosby, 29, all of Villamor Airbase, Pasay City all captured Gold Medals in the women’s division of the wrestling competition. The women wrestlers pinned down 11 competitors from all over the country to win the top prize.

Pasay City Mayor Antonino G. Calixto congratulated the trio and expressed his hope that more young sports talents will emerge from Pasay.

“Isa na naman pong karangalan ang iniuwi ng ating mga manlalaro. (This is another honor that our athletes took home) As home grown talents, we are very proud of their accomplishment and we hope that their feat will inspire more young people from Pasay to go into sports,” Calixto said in a statement.

The chief executive added that his administration will continue to provide financial and moral support to all the city’s athletes in their quest to bring glory and honor to their hometown.

Crosby, Calitis and Vergara, all members of the Philippine Wrestling Team, joined last year’s national games after a six-year break. They first joined the national team in 2002. (RJB/SDL-PIA NCR)
