Water company builds 1,800 homes for the homeless
PARAÑAQUE, June 23 (PIA) -- The city government of Parañaque commended the Maynilad Water Services, Inc. for recently donating P1.82 million to District 3830 Rotary Homes Parañaque Foundation, Inc. for the construction of 1,500 homes for informal settlers in the city.
“It is our vision to see that our marginalized constituents have access to decent housing as well as potable water. We commend Maynilad for their contribution to our efforts in making this vision a reality,” Parañaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr. said.
According to the city government, the donation will be used for the construction of the first cluster of 14 housing units that will be named “Maynilad Row.”
The housing project of Rotary Homes Paranaque Foundation, Inc. District 3830 aims to build 1,500 units in the 4.2 hectares government-owned property along C5 extension near Multinational Village to provide informal settlers along the Parañaque River more decent living conditions, as well as to reduce pollution in said river.
Meanwhile, aside from the donation, Maynilad also pledged to implement pipe-laying work in the area to make sure that the community has access to potable water supply.
“This is part of our commitment to bring reliable water supply to all areas within our concession, similar to what we have already accomplished in many other communities in Parañaque,” said Maynilad Chief Operating Officer Herbert Consunji.
Mayor Bernabe was a recipient of the 2012 Special Partnership Award given by Maynilad Water Services Inc. for encouraging, enabling and establishing utmost growth in Maynilad service coverage in Parañaque City.
The housing project is also made possible in cooperation with the Parañaque City Government, Save the Parañaque River Foundation Inc., and Couples for Christ ANCOP. (RJB/JEG-PIA NCR/Paranaque-PIO)
