Marikina City to hold mobile blood donation on July 9
MARIKINA CITY, July 1 (PIA) -- Blood will flow on July 9 as donors respond to the call of the city to donate blood from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the second floor of the Marikina Sports Building.
In a release by Marikina, its City Health Office (CHO), aims to collect around 300 to 500 bags of blood which will be given to the Philippine Blood Center and Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center. This will be Marikina's share in the observance Blood Donors’ Month this July.
“Several times a year, we invite Marikeños to donate blood for our local hospitals. We want to be sure that our city can sustain the demand of blood bags for our sick residents,” Marikina Mayor Del De Guzman said.
The mayor also encouraged residents of the city aged 18 to 60 years old to donate blood.
The month of July has been designated National Blood Donor’s Month pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1021, dated July 9, 1997, and the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the National Blood Service Act of 1994.
The observance aims to build public awareness of the need for quality and safe blood, honor and recognize blood donors, and encourage regular blood donation.
Meanwhile, the city government said participants will undergo screening or medical examination to determine their qualification to donate.
For minors who are willing to donate blood, they must present first a letter of consent from their parents.
All blood successful donors will receive a "Sagip Ka 2000" insurance card. The insurance card entitles the bearer to different medical benefits such as ambulance services, medical reimbursement due to accident, and burial assistance.
The project is made possible in cooperation with Sagip Ka 2000, Philippine Blood Center and the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center. (Marikina-PIO/RJB/JEG-PIA NCR)
