Makati anti-drug council launches 'IGLAP'

MAKATI CITY, June 10 (PIA) -- The Makati Anti-Drug Abuse Council (MADAC) has launched over the weekend, the premiere of its self-produced movie “IGLAP”, a 35-minute informational documentary film on drug abuse at the Mini Theatre of the University of Makati.

In a statement, Mayor Jejomar Erwin S. Binay lauded the Makati Anti-Drug Abuse Council for the initiative, saying it was an effective way to make people clearly aware of the disastrous consequences of using and selling illegal drugs.

“The 35-minute short film is certainly a great approach to getting the message across, especially to the youth, that nothing good comes out of drug abuse and it will surely destroy their lives and their future,” Binay said.

For his part, Makati Police Department OIC Col. Jaime Santos, chief of MADAC operations who wrote the story for the film, said the rising popularity of short films nowadays motivated his team to produce IGLAP. He said the film focuses on the ill effects of illegal drugs, including the rise in drug-related crimes.

Santos said MADAC will use the film in its citywide campaign on drug abuse prevention and control, which also covers all public and private schools in Makati this school year 2012-2013.

Among the 200 invited guests at the premiere viewing of Iglap were Mayor Binay, acting city administrator Marjorie A. De Veyra, city councillors, and city and municipal mayors from Metro Manila and Rizal Province. Also expected to come to the launching are representatives of different national agencies from the Dangerous Drugs Board, Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency, Department of Education, and different government representatives.

IGLAP was directed by Communication Arts students from San Sebastian College and majority of its actors are students from San Sebastian High School, who gave their services for free.

Binay lauded the students for their noteworthy contribution to the city and to society as a whole, which showed their sincere commitment to be of service to their country. (ICRD/RJB/JCP-PIA NCR)
