NDRRMC turns over rubber boats in La Union
SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union June 22 (PIA) -- The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) turned-over four rubber boats in La Union even as it held an earthquake drill at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – Mid-La Union Campus here.
The boats were given to the City of San Fernando and the towns of Bauang, Aringay and Bangar in La Union last June 19 undersecretary Benito T. Ramos, NDRRMC executive director and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) administrator.
In an interview, Ramos said that flood-prone areas are prioritized in the distribution of rubber boats. He added that Region 1 is luckier than other regions it has the navy, coast guard, air force, army and the police stationed there.
“Though we have turned-over the rubber boats to these municipalities, it doesn’t mean that this will be utilized only in this area,” Ramos explained. “That is why I am encouraging the Bayanihan or cooperation in every LGU which means these equipments will also be used to assist striken areas nearby.”
Prior to this, the Ramos was in Ilocos Norte to turn-over 19 rubber boats to the provincial DRRMC there. (ANL/MPA-PIA 1 La Union)
