Student Code of Conduct crafted in Vigan to promote community building
VIGAN CITY, July 2 (PIA) -- The City of Vigan has crafted a Student Code of Conduct and Discipline that is useful to the standards of a World Heritage City.
Mayor Eva Marie Singson-Medina said the code will serve as guide for ensuring that students in Vigan are nurtured to become exceptional, reasonable, and morally upright members of the community.
She added that the city government and the public and private schools of Vigan agreed through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to set the rules and regulations that strengthen the values of the youth.
“Our children go to school for the gift of knowledge and wisdom that will see them through life’s journey,” Medina emphasized, even as she said that there will always be influences, both positive and negative from their school environment and peers.
The city chief executive said that with the Code, the city officials, parents and teachers look forward to graduates who are not only “schooled” but educated and “cultured,“ who will contribute to an even better Vigan.
All elementary, secondary and tertiary students within the territorial jurisdiction of Vigan shall be covered by this Code while the rights provided for by the 1987 Constitution and the Education Act of 1982 shall be guaranteed to every student in the city.
The policy of the city government and all academic institutions of Vigan ensures the development of the youth by providing them adequate learning experiences and ensuring peaceful environment in the pursuit of their studies.
The Code also recognizes the right of students to form and join organizations that advance their legitimate and collective interests and aspirations through peaceful and lawful means including the right to academic freedom within the limitations of the law.
The former Board member said that the Code will also strengthen the vital role of the youth in community building and promote and protect their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well-being. (ANL/BPP-PIA 1, Ilocos Sur)
