DAGUPAN CITY, July 6 (PIA) -- A two-storey warehouse of the Philippine Red Cross will soon rise in Pangasinan to serve as a centralized stocking area of the blood institution.

Florame Magalong, chapter administrator of PRC Pangasinan, said the need for the warehouse arose during the recovery and rehabilitation process, after typhoon ‘Pepeng’ wreaked havoc in Pangasinan in 2009.

She said there were many donors but there was no place big enough to accommodate the donations.

“We want to centralize everything para hindi kalat-kalat ang mga goods at iba pang donasyon (We want to centralize everything, so donations will not be scattered all around),” Magalong said, during the KBP Forum at the Philippine Information Agency on Thursday.

She added that there was a time when donations kept coming and PRC had to ask building owners to accommodate Red Cross stocks in their buildings.

The warehouse, she said, will also ease the minor problems in inventory of stocks and strengthen the disaster response emergency capacities of Red Cross.

The first floor of the warehouse, which stands on a 150 sq. m lot in Barangay Herrero-Perez, is expected to be finished in three months time. The second floor is due for completion next year.

PRC National Chairman Richard Gordon led the ground breaking ceremony for the building during the opening of the National Blood Donors Month last week.

The Philippine Red Cross is an international humanitarian organization which is the primary source or provider of human blood donated by volunteers to help save a person’s life. (ANL/VHS-PIA 1 Pangasinan)
